Reiki and Affirmations
Harnessing the Power of Reiki and Affirmations for Personal Growth
By Dennis Bluthardt at Namaste Studios
The self-improvement community is increasing the recognition of energy healing as many people seek more holistic ways to better themselves. Energy healing practices such as Reiki (probably the most known technique in this post) are described as the life force energy that flows through us. Many other energy healing techniques contribute to moving and balancing these life force energies to areas that promote that healing and encourage personal (emotional/spiritual) development.
As mentioned, Reiki has more understandably been coupled with affirmation techniques due to their similar benefits and the nature of practicing the two. Affirmations as a practice are fantastic for mindfulness and those who like to meditate, as they allow you to focus more seriously on an idea. Affirmations combatted with Reiki can be 100x this experience (just an estimate; seriously, it’s a must-try).
In short, if you practice meditation, you know the benefits are in every other post on the internet for a reason! You likely use affirmations already. As someone in the holistic community, you have likely practiced both. Including both in a sort of mash-up (like a Christmas and Halloween mash-up from “A Nightmare Before Christmas”) is something that I believe is underrepresented and heavily underutilized in both teaching and learning. Because of this, I encourage any of my students to (for obvious reasons) try this one night before sleeping (using a proper meditation technique).
Understanding Reiki
Reiki is an energy healing modality that was born in Japan in the early 20th century to Mikao Usui. It’s a spiritual practice that upholds the idea that there is a universal life force energy or Ki (Reiki breaks down to “Rei,” universal and “Ki,” life force energy.), which runs through all things that have life. With that said, the practice involves the practitioner channeling this energy and then touching their hands lightly or hovering above the body of the person receiving the healing.
This is done in hopes that a gentle warming touch will be able to help break through blockages and restore harmony to the body’s freaking chakras. Once proper harmony is restored, the body, we can expect, will start to produce fewer stress responses and more “heal and chill” responses…all thanks to its newfound environment that’s been optimized for healing.
Channeling through and invoking energy from the universe will provide lightworkers with an array of new benefits to take in with each camp they consider working with. Even so, lightworkers with an open, equal, and diverse arsenal have the confidence to know that they’ll be able to handle whatever comes their way.
Beyond the more material and physical benefits that come with Reiki, for those who do healing things because they want to receive more healing themselves, the other benefits that come with Reiki have to do with the issues’ overall well-being, as far as Smokey’s own spirit and soul practice are concerned. It makes it into a growth aid AND practice by itself.
The Power of Affirmations
Affirmations are positive statements that a person should say or think about themself. Every person already does this, whether they realize or intend it.
People should make their opinions positive. If an individual isn’t always perfect, that’s no problem. That individual can change his or her self-affirmation opinion into something more in line with where he or she is going and what kind of person that individual is trying to become.
A list that primarily includes “coping skills,” tactics that might help change a person from a negative state into a more positive one (for example, from sad to happy or from procrastinating to motivated), and sprinkle in several healthy activities that can help that person keep from dipping into the red when they know self-harm is a likely or at least possible outcome. Here are some good ideas (though different people may prefer some hobby, getting out and exercising, stretching, doing yoga or some other mindful practice, calling friends for help, calling to vent, or going to therapy):
Write
Sing
Dance
Laugh
Play
Express gratitude. Regularly. The affirmations are nice.
Love
Use an anger management technique
So many other examples
Integrating Reiki and Affirmations
Reiki techniques can be easily combined with affirmations to enhance your personal healing and growth practice. You start in your sacred or favorite quiet space and get in a comfortable position. You may begin with some grounding practice to bring some Zen to that monkey mind of yours. Once you feel more balanced and your breathing has helped your body relax and center itself, place your hands on your heart or anywhere else where you can comfortably rest them, and take a few minutes to pull in and channel Reiki energy. During this time, recite (silently or out loud) the positive affirmations you created for yourself. It’s essential to come up with a few (try not to go over five to seven at a time) positive affirmations or mantras as they pertain to your emotional well-being. Please make sure they are the ones that speak to you personally, not someone else’s.
Your statements should be in line with what you want to work on. This could be what you want to overcome or bring to fruition for your highest good. And, of course, the good of others. This is also an opportune time to work on your psychic and mediumship skills. Bring about positive changes or better manage personal situations or relationships. The fun part is that you can customize it and make this practice your own! Work on this at your own pace, one random Reiki Day over your chosen period. Reiki teaches us to focus on the present, but you can work on this in any way you are guided to! There is no right or wrong. All healing is good, no matter what form the positive energy takes.
Practical Techniques for Beginners
Reiki techniques are doable, accessible forms of energy healing you can do entirely alone in the comfort of your armchair. By incorporating a few easy Reiki techniques into your life, you’ll have tools for fostering a sense of well-being and practical skills that are always close at hand.
Hand gestures (the basic tenets of energy healing, no pun intended), the power of the mind, and the power of creative visualization can (and do) enable you to channel good energy, prevent toxic whirlpools of negativity, and keep a firm upper hand on positive, loving relaxation when you need it. So, the next time you’re alone, place your hands (palm down) on the edge of your heart and breathe. Just breathe, close your eyes, breathe life in, breathe stress out. It’s calming. It’s kind to yourself, and it feels good.
You can also incorporate the power of the positive affirmation into your daily routine.
- An affirmation is the psychological, self-help equivalent of a “pep talk.” You hear the statement (once, twice). You read the statement (once, twice). You repeat the statement (once, twice), and you start to believe the principle of the statement.
- Possibly have a “dedicated” set time to practice. It’s more complicated than you may realize to spend dedicated, quality time alone in solitude, like some fleeting resident damselfly. Allow for just a few short moments (minutes, even) where you can take the time, energy, and effort to transform your physical being and your “other” sides (the emotive, psychological, and cognitive aspects that make you interestingly “you”). Add the healing elements of meditative energy therapy to get your first essential step in channeling/learning the path of FULL FLOWING energy throughout your body, and you may experience an “energy alignment” for yourself. See your energy as a long, flowing, soft line of lighted dew in the very core of you whilst you repeat one or two positive affirmation quotes.
Blending the practice of Reiki and affirmations is a super combo for personal growth. Reiki is an energy-healing therapy that clears blocked energy to improve emotional and physical well-being. Affirmations are positive statements we consciously repeat to increase self-belief and improve intent. The blend of both practices will enhance your sense of inner self like nothing else. The gentle feeling of peace and quietly confident personal empowerment this practice leads to will pivotally shift how you conduct your life for the better.
Perform affirmations while the Reiki energy is flowing. As the Reiki energy slowly finds and unblocks stuck energy, your negative thoughts (or blockages) are released. There is no better time to replace the newly formed open-mind space than by hammering home some positive-thinking affirmations. Visualize your intentions more clearly and with greater self-belief.
